Summer Skincare

Sydney summers are beautiful — long days, beach time, and outdoor living — but they can be tough on your skin. Heat, humidity, UV exposure, salt water, and air-conditioning all place stress on the skin barrier, often leading to dehydration, breakouts, pigmentation, and sensitivity.

As a skin care specialist focused on safe, natural, and professional treatments, I see the same issues every summer. The good news? With a few simple changes, you can keep your skin healthy, glowing, and balanced all season long.

1. Protect Your Skin from UV Every Day

Sydney’s UV levels are high even on cloudy days. Daily sun protection is essential to prevent pigmentation, premature ageing, and skin damage.

Tip:

  • Use a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ every morning

  • Reapply every 2 hours when outdoors

  • Don’t forget ears, neck, chest, and hands

If you’re prone to breakouts or sensitivity, choose a lightweight, mineral or non-comedogenic sunscreen that won’t clog pores.

2. Hydrate,Hydrate,Hydrate

Summer heat causes increased water loss through the skin, even if your face looks oily. Dehydrated skin often overproduces oil, leading to congestion and acne.

Tip:

  • Use a light hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid or natural humectants

  • Follow with a breathable moisturiser

  • Drink plenty of water, especially after beach or outdoor activities

3. Cleanse Gently

Sweat, sunscreen, and pollution build up faster in summer — but over-cleansing can strip the skin and cause irritation.

Tip:

  • Cleanse twice daily

  • Use a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser

  • At night, double cleanse to fully remove sunscreen and impurities

4. Exfoliate Carefully

Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and prevent congestion, but summer skin is more sensitive.

Tip:

  • Limit exfoliation to 1–2 times per week

  • Avoid harsh scrubs

  • Choose enzyme or mild chemical exfoliation instead of abrasive products

5. Calm and Repair After Sun Exposure

Even with sunscreen, your skin needs recovery after sun, salt, or chlorine exposure.

Tip:

  • Use soothing ingredients like aloe vera, centella, or green tea

  • Apply a calming mask once a week

  • Avoid active treatments immediately after heavy sun exposure

6. Book a Professional Skin Treatment

Summer is not the time for aggressive treatments, but professional, gentle skin therapies can keep your skin balanced and healthy.

Natural, non-invasive treatments help:

  • Control oil and breakouts

  • Maintain hydration

  • Brighten the complexion

  • Strengthen the skin barrier

  • Prevent summer pigmentation
